Week 8: Verses on Discipline

Discipline is the key theme we're diving into today, and it's essential for anyone working in church communications. We all know that the job can get overwhelming with distractions coming from every direction, but building a disciplined approach can help us stay focused and effective. Throughout this episode, I’ll share some powerful verses from Proverbs and Ephesians that highlight the importance of discipline in our lives. As we explore these scriptures, I encourage you to think about how you can apply them to your work and daily routine. By embracing discipline, we not only enhance our productivity but also align ourselves more closely with our purpose in serving others and spreading the message of faith. Let’s take a moment to reflect on this together and aim to incorporate discipline into our lives as we move forward.

Speaker A:

Good morning. I'm Yvon Prehn, and I'd like to welcome you to Monday Devotions for Church Communicators.

This podcast will start your week with prayer and a challenge from God's Word. This is Week Eight on our Devotions for Church Communicators, and I'm going to share with you today some verses on discipline.

The field of church communications is challenging in part because there's so many things to do. Also, ready to destroy our planned schedules, there are potential distractions in life, the church office, and online.

The following verses, mostly from Proverbs, remind us of the importance of building the character trait of discipline into our lives.

As you read them, think through how you might apply them to your work in church communications to both get the work done and and to conquer distractions. So here we go.

The first One is Proverbs 1:1:3, where it says, "the Proverbs of Solomon, son of David, King of Israel, for attaining wisdom and discipline for understanding words of insight for requiring a disciplined and prudent life, for doing what is right and just and fair."

Next, in Proverbs:

And then Proverbs:

Next, Proverbs 25, 28, where it says, "Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who who lacks self control. And then Proverbs 18:9, where it says, one who is slack in his work is brother to one who destroys."

And finally, Ephesians 5, 15 and 16, where it tells us,"Be very careful then how you live, not as unwise, but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil."

Discipline is an essential skill for church communicators. Consciously work to make it part of your life.

And let me pray for you now as you go into your week.

Lord, discipline is not something that we enjoy. We want to eat what we want to eat and do what we want to do, and do it when we want to do it.

But Lord, we know that a disciplined life is a wise life, and it is the life that pleases you.

And so, Lord, help us, no matter how difficult it might be to build discipline into our lives, help us to do that because we love you, because we want to serve you in the most effective way possible. And I pray specifically for the church communicators that you will help them discipline their time, their work, their projects, all of the things that they need so that they can be the most effective communicator ever. So that people can come to know you as Savior and grow as your disciples.

Lord, be with us all now as we attempt to be disciplined people for the glory of God. In Jesus name, Amen.
